Forum on Armed Groups

About the Forum

Co-chaired by the Centre on Armed Groups and United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), the Forum on Armed Groups is a Geneva-based inter-agency platform that brings together the world’s leading humanitarian organisations engaging with armed groups on humanitarian access and protection. The Forum provides a space for practitioners and experts to share analysis, build collective knowledge, compare approaches and reflect on operational challenges and dilemmas.

Through peer learning and collaboration, the Forum seeks to strengthen principled humanitarian engagement with armed groups, support more coherent strategies across member organisations, and help them adapt to changing conflict dynamics. Its work includes generating actionable outputs such as practical guidance, policy briefs, armed group analysis, case studies and documentation of good practice and lessons learned from humanitarian engagement with armed groups.

The Forum also facilitates shared access to relevant research, guidance and other resources, supporting continued learning and knowledge exchange. These resources are available through the Online Resource Platform on Humanitarian Engagement with Armed Groups, which is accessible to Forum members.
